June 22 drive to assist residents affected by recent severe weather events

MERRILLVILLE, Ind. – Northern Indiana Public Service Company LLC (NIPSCO), with support from the NiSource Charitable Foundation is mobilizing resources to assist with relief and recovery efforts in Lake County following last week’s devastating storm, which caused significant damage across the region.

To support impacted families and communities, NIPSCO is presenting a $25,000 gift from the NiSource Charitable Foundation to the Salvation Army of Northwest Indiana and partnering with local organizations to host a community relief event.

The event will take place Monday, June 22, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 6121 Cleveland St. in Merrillville.

“The recent severe storms have had a real impact on families in our community, and our hearts are with everyone affected,” said Vince Parisi, NIPSCO President and Chief Operating Officer. “We are committed to working alongside our partners to provide support and help our neighbors begin to rebuild.”

Led by the Salvation Army of Northwest Indiana with assistance from NIPSCO, the community drive will bring together partners including the Food Bank of Northwest Indiana, Ross Township Trustee’s Office, Indiana Department of Homeland Security and United Way of Northwest Indiana to provide immediate support to residents impacted by the storm.

We’re grateful for our partnership with NIPSCO, the support of the NiSource Charitable Foundation, and the many organizations coming together to serve our community during this time of recovery,” said Major Troy Barker, Area Commander, Salvation Army of Northwest Indiana. “This collective effort allows us to expand our reach and provide critical assistance to those impacted by recent severe weather.”

Approximately 30 NIPSCO volunteers will distribute boxed lunches, toiletry kits and household supplies, including cleaning items, while the United Way will provide charging

stations for visitors to charge devices. Volunteers will also assist with neighborhood cleanup efforts. NIPSCO employees will work alongside Team Rubicon to help remove debris and support recovery efforts across affected communities.
