The storm may have passed. The financial impact may not have.
The August 11, 2026 storms disrupted more than homes and neighborhoods. For many Northwest Indiana families, the storms disrupted work, child care, transportation, housing, and household finances.
Some employers were unable to operate because of power outages. Some employees missed work or lost wages. Some families were forced to stay somewhere other than home while repairs were made. Others faced unexpected expenses while trying to replace damaged belongings, secure temporary housing, or care for their families.
Insurance and federal assistance can provide support, but they do not always cover everything a household needs to recover.
